Creative Lead (Design & Art Direction), London

The Role:

You are a creative visionary: pushing the boundaries of creativity and the possible to advance our clients, our agency, and our staff. From emerging technologies to the latest trends in design, filmmaking, branding or photography, you’re always at the forefront and helping to define what’s next.

You are a perfectionist: a detail-oriented crafts(wo)man who ensures that everything coming out of the London office is the best it can be, down to the last pixel, headline, CTA, scamp or select. You take holistic responsibility for the overall creative output of the London team.

You are a team leader: motivating, supporting, encouraging, overseeing and mentoring. You walk the fine line between giving your team the space to fail (and learn), and giving them enough support to be the best they can be.

You are a business driver: working together with our Strategy and Production teams, you will spot opportunities, grow client relationships at a strategic level, and grow the business regionally.


  • Line manage and mentor the Art Directors and Designers in the London studio.
  • Understand and contribute to Toaster’s business objectives, values and culture, taking responsibility for your team’s ability and awareness to deliver towards the Toaster ethos.
  • In collaboration with the Global ECD, provide guidance to overall creative branding and strategy of Toaster.
  • Oversee and lead the creative direction and design of all projects, collaborating with the leads of other disciplines/departments to ensure the brief is managed and executed to the clients’ requirements.
  • Ability to evaluate work without imposing your own style.
  • Ensures quality and can approve work for effective client presentations.
  • Help to educate clients in order to provide the best possible creative solutions to their problems.
  • Understand how individual projects fit into wider strategic and business goals for the agency, and how to prioritise workflows accordingly.
  • Run pitches and projects with minimal senior oversight - championing creative content, and being acutely aware of commercial pressures such as resourcing, budget and profitability.
  • Keep abreast of trends and developments within the tech, advertising and design world and promote initiatives to involve the wider team in an on-going awareness and education programme.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of clients' products, their competitors and the market environment.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with cross-discipline internal stakeholders and clients.
  • Capable in creating effective copy for various projects and deliverables, such as large web initiatives, online advertising & digital marketing.
